Green Mountain Golf Course Review

Green Mountain Golf Course Review

Green Mountain Golf Course, in Vancouver, WA is a good, metro area course in a quiet setting. Built on an old dairy farm on the south end of the namesake hillside, Green Mountain has a peaceful, country feel despite it’s convenient proximity to many Vancouver-Camas residents. While the course features and conditions are rather ordinary, Green Mountain’s well maintained putting surfaces are noteworthy. Providing a smooth, true roll, the greens make it easy to look past a few imperfections, namely grounds under repair and an artificially-surfaced tee box. But all in all, the course has a fun design that offers some risk-and-reward opportunities. Experienced golfers can play to their strength off the tee and look to capitalize on the greens with their honest rolls. But Green Mountain is a course for all golfers, and provides a respectable place to enjoy the game at a reasonable price.

Green Mountain is built on rolling terrain at the base of the butte, with some ridges that play into the course design. Aside from these areas of natural sloping, the grounds are fairly flat and simple. The front 9 plays very short, even from the back tees, and contains most of the layouts that require proper shot selection. Whether narrow, or lined with trees and hazards, the front 9 provokes a bit more thought while game planning. The longer back 9 has plenty of opportunities to swing away off the tee, and get away with less precision. But even here, you will find a couple short, risk-and-reward setups. Throughout the course, it’s not uncommon to see greenside trees impeding certain approach angles, as well as fairway-intersecting creeks and dry hazards forcing layups. Sand traps exist near the greens on most of the holes, and occasionally enroute to them, but they aren’t an overwhelming factor. Water-related trouble is present often, but aside from the pond-carry of the Par 3 8th, most of it is either small, peripheral, or dry lateral drop zones. The greens range from mild to sizable contour, and as mentioned, provide a quality, pure line. When they firm up in summer months, their standout quality is enhanced.
