The 6th Hole at River's Edge Golf Course in Bend, Oregon is one of the
most memorable holes in the entire Northwest, and is a hole worth the
price of admission to play at River's Edge alone. You tee off from an
elevated tee box, and while its fairly wide open, even being in the fairway doesn't guarantee a good look at the green. On both sides of the fairway, there are massive rocks with waterfalls that impede your look to the green. Stray too far to either side, and you will lose your ball in the surrounding forests. After you tee off, the fun begins. A well played tee shot will leave
you with an approach anywhere from 80-120 yards out. Accuracy is a
must on your secon shot. The pin is frequently kept on the front of the
green, which provides a few challenges. First, the green is elevated, with
a 25 foot drop right after the fringe. Second, there is a ridge about 15 feet into the green, so being on the backside of the green leaves a treacherous downhill putt that feeds to the cliff, and into a small pond. Leaving your approach is prefered, but also brings the water into play. Visually, this is a stunning hole, and making par is a bigger challenge than the yardage would have you believe.
